Build the Person You Want to Be

Original Post: https://blog.zijainternational.com/build-the-person-you-want-to-be/

Setting the Goal: When setting my goals, I will always put myself in an environment where I am not distracted, I can focus, I can hear myself think, and most important, I can visualize myself achieving my goals. What does it look like? What does it feel like? What does it even smell like? When you take the time to envision what this will be like, you will take the necessary steps to achieve that vision.

What goals do I set? The core buckets I focus on in my life are: Faith, Family, Finances, Fitness, Friendship, Favor (service, kindness, being a miracle to others) and Field (work). These are the areas that are most important to me and when my goals are met in these categories, I can experience the happiness I’ve been seeking.

How do I set my goals? When you are setting your goals, putting yourself in the right mindset, and allowing inspiration to flow, it can quickly become overwhelming. You feel like you have to move a mountain in order to achieve, when in reality, let’s start with an achievable scoop of dirt! I go through each of these buckets and set 1-2 Wildly Important Goals (WIGS) for each one.

Writing your goals down. If you’re going to take the time to think about goals, set goals, and envision a life accomplishing your goals, then you have to look at every variable that will increase the probability of success. Write them down! Some crazy statistics*:

  • 25% of people abandon their New Year’s Goals after the first week of the year.
  • 60% abandon them within six months.
  • 5% of those who lose weight on a diet keep it off; 95% will regain it.

Life moves fast and changes happen unexpectedly; it is very easy to say, “I’ll get around to it.” Writing goals down creates a commitment to the most important person, yourself. It gives you direction, purpose, and an end game. It keeps what it is that you’re wanting at the forefront of your mind. Remember, “It’s a Dream until you write it down, and then it becomes a Goal!”

Learning how to set your goals is just the beginning and the simplest part to the process. Where the rubber meets the road is in the execution. Here are some simple steps to help execute the behavior needed to achieve your goals! To remember them, I use a simple acronym F.L.E.A.:  Focus, Leverage, Engagement, Accountability.

Discipline 1: Focus on Wildly Important Goals (WIG)

Choose 1-2 (but no more) Wildly Important Goals in the form of, “Change X to Y by this date.” and then focus on achieving the goal.

“The sun’s scattered rays are too weak to start a fire, but once you focus them with a magnifying glass they are capable of starting a fire in seconds”

Discipline 2: Leverage – Acting on Lead Measures

Choose your lead measures in the form of simple, measurable actions you can do each day that will help you reach your goals. These are predictive and become the KEY leveraging points in obtaining your goal.

Discipline 3: Engagement – Keep a Compelling Scorecard

“The highest level of performance always comes from people who are emotionally engaged and the highest level of engagement comes from knowing the score.” If you don’t know you are winning or losing, your most likely on your way to losing. Ask yourself regularly, “AM I WINNING?”

Discipline 4: Create a Cadence of Accountability

Accountability: Hold yourself accountable to your lead measures. If needed, find a partner to help keep you accountable.

Cadence: This needs to be done at least weekly. Find the right rhythm and stick to it.

“The magic in accomplishing goals is in discipline, consistency and the cadence of accountability.”

As we begin 2018, try practicing these disciplines by setting and accomplishing your health and wellness goals. Finding an opportunity with extra incentive can help with your goal engagement.

Being Successful in Nutrition & Fitness as You Travel

Blog Post: https://blog.zijainternational.com/being-successful-in-nutrition-fitness-as-you-travel/

One of the most difficult things we can do is attempt to be conscientious about our health and wellness as we travel. Lucky for you, it’s easier than you might think! In fact, all it takes is being well-prepared and incorporating proper nutrition and physical activity into your travel plans. Here are 7 easy tips to help you maintain your journey to a healthier lifestyle before you embark on your next flight.

Tip #1: Load up that carryon! Assemble yourself an arsenal of healthy snacks like fruit, nuts, prepackaged protein (tuna fish, chicken), raw yams cut up like carrots, chopped jicama in a snack baggie, oatmeal, or breakfast packaged into individual serving sizes for each morning (assuming breakfast isn’t provided). When you get hungry, break out these snacks and you will be better equipped to skip the airport candy bars!

Tip #2: Pack your resistance bands. They are lightweight, take up very little space, and can provide total body workouts right from your hotel room. Band workouts are also great for keeping your body supple after long travel hours and keeping you energized throughout your trip.

Tip #3: Healthy, nutritional products are a must! Don’t forget your individual packets of healthy fitness supplements, nutritional products, and high-quality protein bars!  They will definitely enhance your travel experience by keeping your immune system awake and ready to take on whatever your trip holds!

Tip #4: Eat smart while you are on the run. If you have breakfast provided in the hotel, stick to eggs, salsa, fruit, and a healthy carb such as oatmeal/cinnamon or an English muffin. Avoid carb-heavy meals like waffles, pastries, and juice—waffles are the equivalent to consuming donuts for breakfast. And remember, too much of anything can be harmful to your health. If you are consuming more than a daily recommended dose of sugar at breakfast alone, you are doomed to have cravings and most likely eating more throughout the day—which, in turn, will affect your energy and fat loss goals. If you must eat out, try ordering grilled meats, lowering high starch carbs, and adding fruit to help lower sugar cravings.

Tip #5: Book a hotel near a grocery store so you have access to healthy food. Stock up the fridge inside your hotel room with these good foods and avoid the nutritional dangers of eating out. If you are unable to pack fruit to your final destination, purchase it on your way from the airport to your hotel. If you are prepared, you will succeed!

Tip #6: Stay close to a gym if one is not provided by your hotel. Mixing up your routine is always a great idea because it keeps your body adapting. Visiting new or hotel gyms will sometimes force us to change up our workouts, causing our bodies to guess what may come next. Don’t be surprised if you get muscle soreness just by simply trying new machines and exercises in a gym that you are unfamiliar with.

Tip #7: Suck it in. While sitting on a long flight, shuttle, or car ride, try squeezing your glutes and holding in your core, pulling your belly button towards the back of your spine for several minutes at a time. If you are stuck in a sedentary position, you might as well get a workout in that doesn’t require any additional time commitment. This can be a very discreet, quiet, and fun challenge. The person next to you will have no idea that you are burning double the calories that they are just by “sucking it in.”

The next time that you travel, try any one of these and see if your trip is a little less stressful by having some great tools at your fingertips!

Learning to Say No

Blog Post: https://blog.zijainternational.com/learning-to-say-no/

Do you have a hard time saying “no?”

I think it happens to many of us; a friend or family member approaches us with the words, “Can you…” and our palms get sweaty and our heart begins to race. We know a request for a commitment is coming our way and we don’t want to disappoint. In turn our response is automatically the answer, “Yes.” And as that short little word is coming out of our mouth, we are already kicking ourselves for committing.

For most of us, saying no is exceedingly difficult. We seem to say yes to everything. We feel that if we say no we will hurt someone or let them down. This innate desire to please and perform can lead to over-commitment, task saturation, and emotional burn out. We become overwhelmed with anxiety over what we have to do to the point that it keeps us from getting any one task done, fully. Suddenly all of our own priorities have been pushed aside and we are now investing our time and energy into something important to someone else.

By saying yes to too many things, we may be saying no to some very important things.

Next time when asked, try using some of these responses vs. responding with an automatic “yes!”

  • I would love to, but right now I cannot focus my attention on that fully
  • I need to finish the project (commitment) I have in front of me first and then I can
  • I would like to be involved but I cannot get to that for another X number of days/weeks, if that is acceptable
  • I am going to need 24 hours to think about that, then I can get back to you
  • Thank you for thinking of me but I simply don’t have the time

Being an Effective Leader

Blog Post: https://blog.zijainternational.com/being-an-effective-leader/

Whether you are a seasoned direct sales leader with a large organization beneath you or just beginning to build your team, it is important to study and adopt the desirable qualities of effective leaders. Those with the most wealth and the loftiest degrees from elite universities are often revered as leaders. But, is this truly what leadership has become—affluence and fancy degrees?

While a great number of brilliant minds have come from the elite universities, an equal or greater number of brilliant minds sprouted outside these institutions—Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, and Walt Disney to name a few. In addition, some of the most influential people of the last century have lived in humble circumstances, such as Mother Teresa, Rosa Parks, and Anne Frank. One only need to study the lives of these influential people to discover that leaders are predominantly made through hard work, persistence, learning, and observation.

These are just a few examples of uber-successful leaders and visionaries who left an enduring mark on the world. While self-education and the sum of experiences isn’t always the way leaders and innovators are produced, it certainly proves that this route to leadership is very possible. Meaningful contributions to society can be made through passion, drive and the desire to inspire others to be leaders.

Everyone needs mentors and leaders. Leaders who will add value to them and help inspire them to greater things. Here are a few tips to add value to your team and inspire them to greatness:

  1. Love and serve your team. This is a people industry. Put people first, communicate regularly and effectively, demonstrate your genuine interest in the success of others, and give them the support they need to thrive.
  2. Maintain high positive energy. Keep your “why” in focus and remember the reason you started your Zija business. It is normal to feel stressed and drained occasionally, but energy and positivity maintains high team morale and propels your team forward to meet goals.
  3. Celebrate successes. Celebrate the successes of your team—no matter how small the progress—publicly. Recognition reinforces positive behaviors, motivates, and yields better results.
  4. Lead with action, not words. People are far more likely to follow your actions than what you say. “Practicing what you preach” upholds your credibility and will earn the trust of your team.
  5. Make learning a continual process. Master the features and benefits of seven to twelve products, make it a point to learn about new products, understand the compensation plan, and read books that present ideas to help you achieve success. Learning should be a lifelong pursuit.

The measure of a leader is his ability to inspire others to greatness and to improve the lives of others. Leaders recognize and leverage knowledge from a variety of sources. They attract and surround themselves with other strong and successful people that embolden them to realize goals. Innovative leaders create lasting change in the world. They take concepts, whether their own or an existing idea, and develop and promote those ideas until they become the vision of what the future should be.

It’s time that we evaluate leaders based on their contribution to society, their ability to inspire others, and their ability to improve lives; not the degrees they hold, the wealth they have obtained, or other superficial attributes. Zija has the right products, at the right time, and you are the right person to help lead the charge.

Focus on Positivity

Blog Post: https://blog.zijainternational.com/focus-on-positivity/

‘Tis is the season! For some, it’s a time to be happy and full of joy—others, not so much. The world is full of negativity and continuously faces numerous difficult challenges. If we allow it, this negativity can be detrimental to our overall health. How do we allow the negativity in? We allow ourselves to focus on it, or worry about things we can’t control. Studies show that our cells contain memories and store negativity. These studies also show that this negativity, in some cases, can be very harmful to the cell and eventually destroy it. Once you start destroying cells, you eventually destroy tissues and the cells that make-up our tissues, and the tissues that make-up our organs, which make-up our bodies! You get the picture.

But, similar studies have shown that feeling thankful—or exhibiting a sense of gratitude—can have positive affects on our health. The positive energy that comes from having a sense of gratitude is like a pebble thrown into your wellness pond—it continuously ripples into other areas of the body; our brains work better, our hearts work more efficiently, our lungs operate better, and we digest food better. As a medical doctor that tries to focus on wellness and treating the whole patient, I’ve seen both the effects of being negative or positive can have on a patient’s health. If you truly want to improve your health, be thankful for what you have. Focus on the positive around you. Say thank you for kind acts, tell someone you admire them and why you do, and how thankful you are for them. Tell loved ones you love them and why. Take notice that nature provides stunning sunrises or sunsets daily and beautiful flowers, trees, shrubs, and skies surround us daily. Take notice and make an effort to comment to yourself aloud how beautiful the day or night is. Stop for a few seconds and admire something you pass by every day. Express gratitude for it!

Simple things like this can have profound positive affects on your health. Recognize and be thankful for the food in your cupboard—be thankful and understand that food is a powerful medicine and not just a source of fuel to your body, but also a source of body information. It signals all areas of your body including your DNA. Always try to consume as much real food that you can.

Take full advantage of being involved with a company that has brought a super food like the mighty Moringa to your daily lives that provides nutrient-dense supplements and products made from real food that are beneficial to your health. Moringa provides powerful antioxidants, reduces inflammation, contains healthy amino acids, and contains nutrients that stabilize your blood sugar. Consume this super food daily and believe me, your body will thank you!
