Energy Tips for the Busiest Time of Year

Blog Post: https://blog.zijainternational.com/energy-tips-for-the-busiest-time-of-year/

It’s my favorite time of year—and definitely the busiest. There’s always a long to-do list to cross off, holiday parties to enjoy, lights to see, hot chocolate to drink, snowmen to build, gingerbread houses to decorate, and hidden Christmas presents to find. Yes, I’m a grown adult, I can’t help that these are my priorities. But, because I’m not 10 anymore, I seem to get worn out and feel tired a lot faster than I did when I was a kid. I do a few things to keep my energy levels high, some would say too high, but what’s wrong with wanting to feel like a kid again? Here are a few easy-to-implement tips:

Nourish Your Body: Protein-rich foods like quinoa, beans, eggs, and tuna make all the difference in sustained energy throughout the day. Sometimes it is difficult to be health-conscious during the holidays, but striving for consistent improvement each day by adding nourishing foods, supplements, and ingredients to your diet can be all it takes to see a difference in your energy levels. Personally, I NEVER go a day without my natural, Moringa-rich energy drink. By drinking it every day, I get the vitamins, minerals, proteins, antioxidants, and omega oils that my body needs to feel energized.

Gym Time: Probably the most annoying advice to hear when you’re tired is to go workout. But, working out equals endorphins, and endorphins mean energy. If the gym isn’t your thing, try walking around your neighborhood to see some Christmas lights or speed walk your way through the mall to get your holiday shopping done.

Take a Break: I know you’re busy, but sometimes to ACTUALLY make the season merry and bright, you need to take a breather. In a study by Brock University, a 10-30-minute nap is all you need to feel re-energized and refreshed. Don’t have 10 minutes? Try deep breathing for just 60 seconds. When you focus on breathing you help slow your heartbeat and help lower or stabilize blood pressure—resulting in a more relaxed you. Doing things like watching a holiday movie with your family or friends, sitting by the fire and reading a book, or going to bed just 30 minutes earlier can all help with your energy levels, too.

Happy Holidays! Here’s to staying happy, energized, and a little more childlike this season!

Winter Proof Your Skin

Blog Post From: https://blog.zijainternational.com/winter-proof-your-skin/

It’s wintertime and that means whipping winds, dry air, and cold temperatures are on the way. Not far behind is dry skin, cracked lips, and brittle hair for many of us! The cold air outside combined with central heat indoors can strip moisture—leading to increased skin sensitivity, dehydration, accelerated aging lines, rough hands and feet, and itchy skin on our face and body.

But you don’t have to put up with dry skin and brittle hair. Here are some tips to help you winter proof your skin!

Turn Down the Water Temperature
A hot, steamy shower may feel relaxing, but it can wreak havoc on our outermost layer of skin—the stratum corneum. Hot water, combined with traditional bath soap, can disrupt the skin’s natural balance of moisture and weaken its defense against the environment.

For those with dry skin, robbing the natural oils can lead to itchy, cracked, and inflamed skin conditions. For those with oily skin, it can cause the skin to produce even more oil, leading to increased clogged pores and acne flare ups. By lowering your water temperature and shortening your exposure during winter months, you can help preserve the natural balance of your skin. Also choosing bath cleansers and shampoos and conditioners that are sulfate free and naturally scented with essential oils will help keep your hair, skin, and body rejuvenated, as well as hydrated.

Clear Away Old Skin Cells by Exfoliating
You can pile on creams and lotions, but you may be wasting your time and money. Our skin is constantly generating new skin cells at the lower layer which sends older and dead skin to the surface. Exfoliation is beneficial because it removes the cells that are clinging on to the surface that in turn give us a dull, lifeless appearance. These dead cells are also blocking many of the beneficial ingredients in other topical anti-aging treatments. In order for beneficial ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin layers, we need to remove that occlusive layer of dead skin. Make sure to choose an exfoliator that not only removes the dead skin, but also nourishes it at the same time. Avoid anything too harsh (abrasives or strong acids), as these ingredients can dry out the skin or even harm healthy, intact skin. Gently exfoliating will allow your skin to take advantage of your skin care treatments more effectively, and allow your natural glow to shine through.

Hydrate and Moisturize your Skin
What’s the difference between hydrating and moisturizing your skin? While hydration is what makes our skin soft, it won’t stay that way if there’s no oil protecting that hydration from evaporating and abandoning the skin. Conversely, to put oil on top of already dehydrated skin may smooth it, but it will still lack the hydration that makes it feel soft and elastic. Our skin requires both hydration and moisture to function optimally and remain youthful looking, longer. Choose topical moisturizers that contain a combination of humectants that draw moisture, emollients that smooth, and contain an occlusive to protect the skin. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, shea and cocoa butter, and glycerin, as well as natural oils high in lipids.

To help seal moisture in on dry areas of the hands, feet, and lips—look for heavier occlusive ingredients such as beeswax and silicones.

Carina’s Journey From 400 Pounds to Marathon Finisher

Blog Post From: http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/watch/carinas-journey-went-400-pounds-marathon-finisher/

At 437 pounds, Carina’s weight made it difficult for her to stay active and caused dangerous health issues, such as high blood pressure and pre-diabetes. After deciding to have gastric bypass surgery, the resulting weight loss allowed her to exercise regularly and even conceive her second child. Today, she’s grateful to be able to move her body and teach her children the importance of putting your health and fitness first.
